We often use the word faith without thinking about its meaning.
We know that without faith it is impossible to please God, and that faith is the heart and foundation of daily life in Christ. But what is faith? The author, Joel Beeke, is convinced that the best way to understand what faith is, is to see how it is reflected through the Spirit of God in the lives of sinful human beings like us.
Therefore, he examines how essential aspects of faith were expressed in the lives of Adam and Eve, the Shunammite woman, the Canaanite woman, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh. With the warm tone of a pastor, he encourages his readers to ask themselves three questions: Do I have such faith? Is the aspect of faith described in this chapter evident in my life? How can this particular dimension of faith help me grow as a mature believer?
At the end of the book, questions for reflection are included. These are designed for both individual readers and group study.
