The artist, Manya Herman, was born in 1933 in Romania. In 1941, she and her parents were driven out of their home and forced into a march which lasted three and a half months. After having marched thirty kilometers a day, they finally reached a village where they were put to forced labor. Manya survived abject conditions, dire starvation, severe cold and disease.

At seventeen, she immigrated to Israel, studied to become a primary school teacher, and worked as a kindergarten teacher in Pardes Hana. She married, moved to Haifa and raised a wonderful family. For many years she worked for Haifa Municipality, holding various posts until her retirement.

Manya began her journey in art after the age of fifty, using various techniques, styles and materials. At the age of eighty-six, during the Coronavirus pandemic, she discovered her gift in digital art, creating colorful works in various themes. She created a series of digital drawings presenting reality and conveying a message of love, life and hope even in a harsh reality.

In 2016, Manya moved to The Home for Holocaust survivors in Haifa, a part of a unique project of the “Yad Ezer Lachaver” fund and the ICEJ (International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem). Both the Jewish and the Christian organizations sponsor the project and employ staff members who aspire daily to provide love and care for these survivors in their last years.
